Kirklees age friendly radio launch event

30 June 2025

Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees, Sangam Radio, Kirklees Council and Kirklees Health and Care partnership have taken part in a launch event for a new age friendly radio station.

The event was held in Huddersfield Town Hall. Designed by, and aimed at, older people and people with sight loss who live in Kirklees, the radio programmes and podcasts aims to reach those audiences.

This innovative broadcasting station aims to help people keep up to date with relevant and timely local services and opportunities through an engaging and accessible channel.

The broadcast will include information about health, safety advice, care, finance and local events taking place in and around Kirklees. Organisations can be involved by getting in contact and finding out how they can communicate with this audience.

For many people, including those living with sight loss, online platforms are not always accessible or preferred. This radio initiative offers a dynamic and inclusive alternative — opening up new ways to connect with this audience.

Those who attended heard from presenters and those behind the organisation of the station as well as a sneak preview. They also discussed how local organisation can contribute and become involved.
