She currently works as a senior consultant, coach and business advisor.

Nadeem has extensive international experience working in the private, public and voluntary sectors. He started his UK career at Kirklees Council and has also worked for Age Concern as well as serving as chair for their BME National Network. Nadeem is currently the General Manager of the Indian Muslim Welfare Society, one of the largest charities in West Yorkshire.

Hilary Thompson

Independent Member

After a career in private sector management, Hilary took on a role within Kirklees Council, later moving into the third sector where she held a number of senior leadership roles including CEO of Age UK Kirklees and Calderdale. Hilary previously held several roles on health sector boards including lay member of the CCGs in Kirklees .

Carol McKenna

ICB Accountable Officer (Kirklees)

Carol is Accountable Officer and Place-based Lead for Kirklees. She has worked for the NHS in Kirklees for 20 years, most recently as the Chief Officer of NHS Kirklees CCG and its predecessor organisations. Carol’s other roles have include Executive Director of Commissioning and Strategic Develop for NHS Kirklees, and Director of Commissioning and Service Development at South and Central Huddersfield PCTs.

Gary is the Place Director of Finance for Kirklees and Director of Finance for Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. Gary is a Chartered Management Accountant and a Chartered Public Finance Accountant. He has worked in the NHS for over 25 years.

Penny Woodhead

ICB Kirklees Place Director of Nursing and Quality

Penny is Director of Quality and Nursing for the NHS in Kirklees. She has worked in the NHS for over 30 years. A trained nurse, she also has significant senior management experience gained in primary and secondary care, the voluntary sector, and NHS commissioning organisations.

Dr Naeem is a partner at Mount Pleasant Medical Centre in Batley. Previously he held the post of Clinical Chair of NHS Kirklees CCG.

Steve Mawson

Partner Member – Local Authority

Steve is Chief Executive of Kirklees Council. He joins Kirklees Council in 2023 from Gloucestershire County Council where he was previously Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Director of Corporate Resources. He also has 15 years’ experience with Doncaster Council where he served as Chief Financial Officer.

Dr Mohammed Hussain

Partner Member – Primary Medical Care

Dr Hussain is a GP Partner at Mirfield Health Centre and Eightlands Surgery. He is also Clinical Director for 3 Centres Primary Care Network (PCN). He has worked for the NHS for over 20 years in both clinical and a non-clinical roles.

Dr Omar Akhtar

Partner Member – Primary Medical Care

Dr Akhtar is a GP at Paddock and Longwood Family Practice, Huddersfield. Previously he was a member of NHS Kirklees CCG Governing Body. He is cancer lead for Kirklees.

Brendan is Chief Executive of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. He has a track record of health and care leadership. His previous roles include Chief Executive at Airedale Foundation Trust, and Executive Director of Nursing/Deputy Chief Executive at both Calderdale and Huddersfield, and Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trusts.

Len is Chief Executive of The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. He has worked in the health sector in the UK and internationally for over 30 years. His previous posts include Chief Executive of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, and Deputy Chief Executive of South Australia Health.

Mark is Chief Executive of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to this, he was Director of Finance and Resources for the Trust. Mark joined the NHS in 2009 after a career in the private sector where he held a number of senior finance roles. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Karen Jackson has been the Chief Executive of Locala since April 2018. She has significant leadership experience and previous roles include interim Chief Executive for Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust and Improvement Director with NHS Improvement.

Dipika Kaushal

Partner Member – VCSE

Dipika is the Chief Executive Officer for Northorpe Hall Child & Family Trust in Kirklees. She has extensive experience of working in the public and charity sector with a focus on health and care. Over a 25 year period she has undertaken a range of senior leadership roles at a national, regional and most recently at a local level. Her experience includes community regeneration, transformative system and service integration programmes between the public and voluntary sector within primary, secondary, acute care and prison healthcare settings.

Stacey Appleyard

Partner Member - Healthwatch

Stacey is Chief Executive Director of Healthwatch Kirklees. Healthwatch is an independent charity that makes sure NHS leaders and other decision makers hear the voices and experiences of people living in Kirklees, to improve services and care. Prior to this Stacey held positions within local dental services and the pharmaceutical industry.
